"People in a free and fair elections on 8 July, and President Yudhoyono has impressively won reelection," Obama said in a statement issued by the White House.
"I want to offer my personal congratulations to President Yudhoyono and the United States's willingness to work with him and the Indonesian community in the years to come, to build an even stronger relationship between our two countries," said Obama, who spent some people children in Indonesia.
Incumbent president of Indonesia defeated opposition leader Megawati Sukarnoputri in a landslide vote, and Obama on Tuesday praised the conduct of polls.
"The low voter turnout, contending spirited campaign by all parties, and the high level of interest among Indonesian media, civil organizations, and the voting public is evidence of the strength and dynamism in a young democracy," he said.
"Indonesia has played a greater role internationally in the last few years, and we welcome this role. Indonesia has made significant contribution in Asia and the world in such areas as peace, protection and conservation, the development of multilateral organizations in the Asia Pacific region, and promote democracy and civil society.
